As a strategic partner of UWEZO Uganda since 2018, PDI is the district partner conducting literacy and numeracy assessments for children aged 6-16. We are driven to improve educational outcomes, and in 2022, we established ongoing assessments for our after-school and sports program participants, ensuring we measure and enhance their learning continuously.
Recognizing that Uganda’s free universal primary education still leaves families burdened with costs for lunch and materials, we take action. Our sponsorship program is designed to ensure that students in dire need do not drop out of school. We provide top-up school fees, pay, and provide uniforms and sanitary materials to girls. Since 2023, PDI has partnered with Tailored For Education (TFE) to provide school uniforms to children and youth involved in PDI programs and other community schools. The main goal of this initiative is to use the distribution of uniforms as a means to eliminate educational barriers for children and young adolescents. So far, we have provided over 3000 uniforms from over 30 schools. Each year, we pick a community school focusing on hard-to-reach and resource-constrained communities: Buraba Primary School, Busoto Primary School, and Namurwe Primary School. Sanitary Pads: To date, in 2023 help from Ambassador Olive Wonekha, we received sanitary pads, benefiting 3,800 girls at 59 schools for six months. who provide.
We are firmly committed to supporting Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and young men who have dropped out of formal education. Our program provides them with vital pathways to rejoin school or vocational training. Since its inception in 2017, we have successfully transformed the lives of over 60 participants, many of whom have pursued rewarding careers and are now actively giving back to their communities.
PDI is constructing an Education Resource Center, one of the kinds in the district. The Center aims to bridge educational gaps by providing access to resources, skills development, and a supportive learning environment for children and youth. The center will provide access to quality learning materials and technology, offer academic enrichment programs, and act as a community hub to support children’s holistic development, enhance self-learning, and provide a safe and supportive environment for students and families.
Our program is dedicated to enhancing learning outcomes for young children and driving improvements in primary education across the district. The PDI preparatory school consistently enrolls 100 children annually, while we also empower neighborhood school children through robust sports and music programs. Since 2011, we have positively impacted over 2,000 children. Our current initiative, the Poultry/Nutrition Project, in collaboration with Lehigh University students, is set to raise 500 chickens and a vegetable to provide essential eggs for children in the program to improve nutrition and education outcomes
