ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING

PDI takes a decisive stand on economic strengthening, directly reducing vulnerability and increasing income potential for families. Over the last decade, we have implemented various economic strengthening programs that have included.

This project aimed to provide additional capital from members of the VSLA program who had gone on to establish small businesses. We have over 300 members who benefit from capital ranging from $100-$ to 1000 per year, over 80% women. Bududa Financial Services SACCO: As part of the sustainability of the community economic strengthening program, following the end of the small business project, PDI mobilized the community to form Bududa Financial Services SACCO(BFSS). The SACCO is an independent entity with support from PDI that includes contributions to staff salary, office space, and other materials.

PDI mobilized the community from 2011 to 2019, engaging over 3,000 members, with 75% being women. During this period, many participants initiated businesses, enrolled their children in educational programs, and made advancements in quality of life by accessing basic healthcare, enhancing their home structures, and, most notably, supporting women in their economic empowerment goals.
